Retirement Benefits and Self Determination

Moving to a smaller home in retirement

We all have to make changes in our life. The changes seem to shift rapidly however as you start to age. This makes it that much harder to maintain self-determination. Each day seems to be a struggle. It makes it harder to stay focused when your health is starting to degenerate. Sometimes you think what is the purpose to stay determined when the rest of your life is just moments away? It doesn’t have to be this way. You can start making changes in your life for the better. By cutting back on spending, exercising, eating healthy, staying self-determined, you can continue living a productive life. Just because you have retired does not mean that life is over.

Moving to a smaller home is a great way to prepare for retirement. Moving into a smaller home can save you money and time. You have less hassles and expenses when you make necessary changes that help you to save money. Moving after retirement to a smaller home is a big adjustment for all of us. As we age and go through the retirement phase, we have to learn to live on a tighter budget as well as slowing down on our activities.

One of the most important things is to cut down on the cost of living to adapt to the new budget. With the high price of oil, gas, energy, medications, food and all the other things that come along, a retirement pay doesn’t always cover it all. Making cuts will be the next thing you have to do after you take a cut in income.

Moving to a smaller home is one way to save on expenses. Living in a five-room home isn’t always the best thing when it comes to saving money or energy. Instead of having such large rooms to heat why not have smaller home. I understand we all have things we don’t want to get rid of, but why not let the children or loved ones have them for keepsakes. You really aren’t leaving them behind that way. Moving in a smaller home will save you expenses on heating, electricity, and so on. In addition, you do not spend all your time tidying up your home.

When you move to a smaller home, you can save by renting instead of owning. By renting your smaller home, you will be free of paying property taxes. There will not be any home repairs because it is the property owner’s responsibility. Property taxes can be very high and the larger the home the more taxes and insurance you will pay.

Save by renting a smaller home by cutting back on repairs. Rather than sweating the big stuff, worry about the smaller things. Contractors can be very expensive when the roof starts leaking or the hot water heater goes out. Imagine having extra money for medications to stay healthier for a longer future. The money you can save on heat by buying or renting a smaller home could buy your medicine or an extra bag of groceries next month. Retirement is all about having free time to do things you never were able to do. By having a smaller home, you won’t have to hire someone to come clean anymore. It only takes maybe an hour or two to do minor cleaning each day when you live in a small home.

Now you can enjoy that walk to the park after lunch to watch the children swing and play. Take a drive in the country instead of staying at home to mop that large kitchen you had.
