How does fear hinder or help us grow?
Dread come in two forms. The first fear may be good for you, which your innate instincts will guide you to stay away from the dangers. For instance, if your instincts or conscious is triggering you, thus putting doubt in your mind when you are asked to join your friends at the bar when you know you have homework, this is a healthy fear. On the other hand if you fear change, then you need to readapt your thinking habits, since this is an unhealthy dread. Change is good. The only way to face your fear is to realize that change is what helps you to grow. If a person is afraid of heights it makes it harder to overcome the fear if others are laughing in his or her face. For instance, if someone is adapting to rock climbing, the last thing you want to do is to ignite the person’s fear. It could cause them to continue fearing change. The point here is to work on building self-determination; you must accept change and overcome any negative fears.
Taking the challenge and overcoming the fear: To reassure you that the dread is behind you and is telling you it's ok and to ascend to higher planes of motivation. When someone is in position, he may say give me your weight. Your coach may tell you to ascent and impel your back into the harness and you think yes this does work. By learning to believe in the way you were trained and how you done it then you can focus on not falling but concluding the day's climb. There are ample that hand a foot holds for you to reach the top and you are now safe to ascent all of the way to the peak. Your heart may be palpating and your legs shaking, but then you start to worry as the elevation of the rocks are to ascent, the harder it will be for you. Then the mentor says there are times when you don't feel comfortable and then you think, yes I can come back later and try again. You must overpower your fright you’re not the only one that has a phobia. You do the same thing as what you did the first time and trust yourself with the thoughts that your protected and have your climbing equipment on and you’re not unaccompanied that help is there for you.
All though you don't feel as all is the same and that you haven’t accomplished anything your thinking is wide of the mark because you have took the first steps to make it over one of the roughest area of that rock. You must face up to the verity that you have to do this to subjugate, or overthrow your fear of heights. Even though the rest of the mountaineers have succeeded and there are cheers all round them, you start to think, yes I can do this. After climbing over the first rock, you are shaking and feel as though you will fall, yet you don’t. You begin to climb that rock and your mentor is there to direct and support you. You bellow for joy at the peak and you receive applauses and pats on the back. All you can think of saying is thank God I made it. Keep pushing further on until you have the enemy fear under control. This is what building self-determination is all about. You keep climbing until you overcome the negative fears and succumb to positive thinking.
