The daily routine of work, family time, and financial responsibility sometimes interfere with my sleeping habits. My spouse and I recently upgraded our bed level 7 inches from the floor by adding lifts and my sleep has been very peaceful. Prior to sleeping that high off the ground I usually would get up during the night and have a very hard time falling back to sleep. Not having continuous sleep also interfered with me having a regular sleep pattern and not having a regular sleep pattern interfere with the body being at rest. I have also been a very light sleeper and it didn't take much to wake me up. I would wake up to the slightest sound of outside noise such as loud music, dogs barking, and even the local street cleaner. Working nights when I was younger was even hard for me to get 25 hours a week and I was lucky if my sleep would be continuous and not unbroken. I believe that non-continuous sleep is worse than having no sleep.
Sleeping peacefully at night or day, depending on your lifestyle also brings on the ability to dream. Like I mentioned earlier since I was not able to get a peaceful night rest I would rarely have dreams. If I did dream I would not have any recollection of them and when I did dream it was always very short and usually right before my alarm goes off. My mother has always been gifted with the vision of interpreting her dreams and I would always wonder why I couldn't have that gift. Growing up she would always discuss her dreams with her sisters and they would share what they believed each other's dream meant. Majority of the interpretations would come from old wise tales or some ancient family secrete that was shared through generations. I asked my mom when she began having dreams that had some type of meaning and she said in her early 30's. Her dreams were more like visions because they would come to pass. At first it was creepy to me when she would tell me about her dreams and they would come true, but after it happened more often I appreciated it for what it was; a gift.
Now the gift has been passed down to me and it happened about two weeks ago. Long story short I had a very short dream about some individuals in my past that I have not seen over a year. I had this dream exactly a week from the day it happened. These individuals whom I ran into were in a dream I had and it happened exactly the way it was in my dream. It frightened me causing my heart to flutter and my breathing to be sporadic. It was so weird to have a dream happen in real life. The most terrifying part about the dream coming to life is knowing what is going to happen because you have already seen the vision. Like watching a movie and rewinding it at the scene you enjoyed or missed.
